Earn your qualification as a primary or secondary educator through our Master of Teaching and Learning program. Our curriculum builds your expertise in research-driven teaching strategies, learning theories, investigative skills, and subject knowledge to prepare you for teaching diverse learners in New Zealand classrooms.
You'll acquire hands-on teaching experience with guidance from Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education faculty and Mentor Teachers. The program includes 80 days of classroom placement across two different schools. Coursework covers New Zealand education systems, research-informed teaching practices, inclusive education strategies, and curriculum development. The degree requires completion of eleven 500-level postgraduate papers (180 credits). Designed for top-performing students, this intensive program has stricter admission requirements than the Graduate Diploma in Teaching. This accredited Initial Teacher Education program qualifies graduates for teacher registration and provisional certification in New Zealand.

Candidates for the secondary endorsement must have sufficient depth and breadth of relevant subject or curriculum knowledge at Levels 5-7.
Candidates who do not meet the requirements of these regulations may be considered for admission subject to the completion of any qualifying papers the Academic Board may prescribe which must be completed either prior to or concurrently.
