The Master of Philosophy is a one-year research-focused program where students conduct supervised research examining an important and substantial topic.
Demographic challenges rank among humanity's most pressing 21st-century concerns. Waikato's Population Studies and Demography program examines divergent trends between developed and developing nations, analyzing how governments manage declining birth rates while others address migration challenges and workforce gaps. Students investigate how these factors influence environmental conditions, economic stability, and social structures across nations.
This degree consists of a research project in the form of a thesis, dissertation, substantial research or creative work.
A recognised bachelors degree with a B/B+ average, and a B/B+ average in a relevant subject (if required).
Some faculties/schools require an honours degree (to demonstrate research capacity). Where the above requirements are not met, further study in a lower level programme may be required first.
