The Master of Philosophy is a one-year research-focused program where students conduct supervised research on a substantial and meaningful topic. The University of Waikato's teaching programs develop skilled, thoughtful educators. Our graduates are highly sought-after teaching professionals both in New Zealand and internationally. Beyond classroom preparation, education studies cover diverse areas reflecting the field's expansive nature. Scholars explore how knowledge, skills, and values develop and transmit through both structured and informal channels. We also provide Education courses for the Bachelor of Social Sciences and Bachelor of Arts programs, along with various postgraduate options.
This degree consists of a research project in the form of a thesis, dissertation, substantial research or creative work.
A recognised bachelors degree with a B/B+ average, and a B/B+ average in a relevant subject (if required).
Some faculties/schools require an honours degree (to demonstrate research capacity). Where the above requirements are not met, further study in a lower level programme may be required first.
