Pursuing a Master of Music degree at Waikato equips you with essential skills for a professional music career, whether in composition or performance.
The Master of Music (MMus) program is tailored for students holding an Honours-level Music qualification. This intensive one-year course provides expert-led individual supervision as you undertake substantial projects in your chosen specialization. Through this experience, you'll refine your abilities, deepen your expertise, and demonstrate mastery of your field while cultivating professional competencies.
For performance-focused students, the MMus guides you through preparing for a public recital - from initial planning to final performance. You'll learn to combine music research with practical execution while documenting your artistic development process.
Composition students will produce an original musical portfolio, acquiring professional-level writing skills to create works ready for public performance at concerts or similar events.
Candidates for the Degree must have
In exceptional circumstances, based on academic merit and relevant experience, candidates who do not meet the requirements of these regulations may be considered for admission subject to the completion of any qualifying papers the Academic Board may prescribe which must be completed either prior to or concurrently.
