This research-oriented program is tailored for graduates aiming to pursue advanced research and create innovative solutions to engineering challenges. The degree emphasizes excellence in sophisticated engineering design, research methodologies, and development capabilities. Upon earning your Master of Engineering (ME) qualification, you'll be prepared to launch a professional engineering career or embark on academic research pathways.
The ME program typically requires 12 months of full-time study. It expands upon foundational undergraduate education, such as a four-year BE(Hons) or BSc(Tech). The curriculum comprises 120 credits, achievable through either 30 credits of coursework plus a 90-credit research dissertation, or a comprehensive 120-credit thesis.
When pursuing an ME through the School of Engineering, you can specialize in diverse fields including Chemical and Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials and Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Robotics.
Software Engineering research projects are conducted through the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences.
The School of Engineering cultivates strong interdisciplinary connections among science, engineering, industry, and management. With a robust research foundation, the School equips students with specialized knowledge, analytical capabilities, creative problem-solving approaches, and practical techniques to transform scientific concepts into real-world technological applications.
Students collaborate with leading researchers in their fields and access state-of-the-art laboratory resources. Previous ME candidates have developed innovative projects ranging from disaster-response robotic snakes to neural-controlled prosthetic limbs.
Candidates for the Degree must have
In exceptional circumstances, based on academic merit and relevant experience, candidates who do not meet the requirements of these regulations may be considered for admission subject to the completion of any qualifying papers the Academic Board may prescribe which must be completed either prior to or concurrently.
