The University confers the Doctor of Philosophy degree for research conducted under the guidance of a minimum of two faculty members. Candidates may opt to submit their PhD as a Publication-based dissertation or include a Creative Practice Component. Qualification Requirements

A recognised bachelors degree with a B/B+ average, and a B/B+ average in a relevant subject if required.
Some Faculties/Schools require an honours degree (to demonstrate research capacity). Where the above requirements are not met, further study in a lower level programme may be required first.

A PhD consists of research carried out under the supervision of at least two staff members. The research, which must be the candidate's own work. The thesis is required to present the case for the research, outline the research undertaken and the findings and conclusions of that research. There is no coursework for this degree.
A bachelors with honours or masters degree with a research component of at least 30 points and have achieved at least Second Class Honours (First Division) or Distinction.
IELTS 6.5 overall (with no less than 6.0 in any band)
iBT (internet based TOEFL) 90 with a score of 21 in writing
Pearson PTE Academic Overall score of 58 and no PTE communicative skills below 50
University of Waikato College Successful completion of Level 8 with a B grade average in the Certificate of Attainment in Academic English (CAAE)
