The Master of Theology (MTheol) program demands at least one year of full-time study or its part-time equivalent. Students pursuing an MTheol can explore research areas such as Church History, New Testament, Old Testament, Pastoral Theology, or Systematic Theology.
To qualify for admission, applicants must hold either a BA(Hons) or BTheol(Hons), a PGDipArts or PGDipTheol, or an equivalent qualification. Typically, candidates should have achieved First or Second Class Honours (or equivalent) at the fourth-year level before advancing to the thesis, though each application is assessed individually.
Students must thoroughly investigate a specific research topic, showcasing their understanding of key issues, developing a sustained argument, and presenting a thesis that meets professional publication standards. The degree is conferred upon successful completion of a thesis of around 40,000 words.
This qualification equips graduates for careers in education, government agencies, and counseling. It also provides the research expertise and communication abilities needed for advanced professional roles in Theology or further academic pursuits at the PhD level.
