The Master of Science (MSc) is a two-year program combining academic coursework with research components. During the initial year, students focus primarily on coursework while laying the groundwork for their research projects. Participants can either build upon current research areas or pioneer new fields of study. This degree is available across various disciplines listed below and can be pursued through either a combination of coursework and thesis or solely through thesis work. Bachelor's degree holders typically complete the MSc through papers and thesis (requiring at least two years of full-time study), while those with an Honours degree or postgraduate diploma may opt for the thesis-only route (minimum one year of study).
For the papers-and-thesis pathway, students generally undertake between two to three years of full-time study. The thesis-only option typically requires one to two years of full-time study. Any variations to these durations require explicit approval from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences).
