Chemistry permeates our daily existence in ways we often overlook. It plays a fundamental role in cooking and digestion, respiration and vision, as well as in the fabrics we wear and the materials shaping our surroundings.
During Chemistry studies at Otago, you'll explore molecular interactions, light responses, and environmental impacts. You'll learn techniques for creating new materials and detecting minute pollutant levels. Departmental research focuses on areas like nanotechnology, marine chemistry, intelligent polymer development, and cancer-fighting pharmaceuticals.
For the papers-and-thesis degree path, students typically complete two to three full-time equivalent years of study. The thesis-only option generally requires one to two full-time equivalent years. Any variations require approval from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences).
