The Master of Planning (MPlan) program spans two years of full-time study or its part-time equivalent, combining postgraduate coursework in planning and related disciplines with a substantial supervised research component. Students can choose between two pathways: one focused on a thesis, the other on a research project. Admission typically requires a Bachelor's degree in any field relevant to planning. Academic plans are finalized during enrollment, with research topics selected by the conclusion of the first year. Both thesis and research project submissions are due by the program's end. As a professional qualification, the MPlan prepares graduates for careers in government agencies, health organizations, private sector firms, and planning consultancies across New Zealand and internationally. Some alumni pursue doctoral studies to enter academia or specialize in policy and planning consultancy.
