The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) is a hands-on, studio-focused program aimed at helping students achieve exceptional professional expertise, technical proficiency, and artistic skill. This is accomplished through both creative projects (such as artworks or performances) and a supporting written analysis (exegesis). The program prepares graduates to produce theater productions at a professional standard, offering advanced training in specialized areas like acting, directing, design, or playwriting. It fosters students' capacity to engage with and thoughtfully analyze cultural developments in New Zealand and globally, with special emphasis on theater and performance arts throughout their careers.
