The Master of Arts (MA) in Peace and Conflict Studies and Master of Peace and Conflict Studies (MPCS) are interdisciplinary programs offering advanced training in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and development studies. These programs examine the root causes of violence and warfare across local, national, and global contexts, while exploring strategies for prevention, management, and peaceful transformation.
The curriculum tackles the complexities of fostering harmony in Aotearoa New Zealand's multicultural society, while situating these discussions within New Zealand's regional relationships across the South West Pacific and East/Southeast Asia. The Center integrates academic theory with hands-on research and practical applications, allowing students to focus on either professional practice or academic research pathways.
Both the MA and MPCS combine strong theoretical foundations with practical policy applications. Students gain experience through independent research projects and collaborative problem-solving exercises. The programs strengthen competencies in theoretical frameworks, research methodologies, ethical practices, analytical techniques, intervention strategies, data gathering, evidence-based evaluation, and academic writing within peace and conflict studies.
