Information forms the foundation of contemporary life. We generate it, gather it, process it, examine it, create models from it, interpret it, present it visually, and apply it at levels unimaginable just a short time ago. The essence of Data Science lies in extracting knowledge from information and leveraging it effectively to enhance our global community. Pursuing Data Science opens doors to careers spanning finance and pharmaceuticals, media and academia, gaming and governance, healthcare and heavy industry, commerce and scientific inquiry. This discipline also encompasses a wide spectrum of study. At Otago, our Data Science curriculum combines top-tier elements from computing, information systems, and statistical analysis while emphasizing practical application and societal implications.
Professional prospects
Graduates in Data Science find career possibilities across all sectors of commerce, industry, public service, and scientific research.
The Diploma for Graduates (DipGrad) serves multiple purposes and can sometimes function as an additional specialization. This program requires completion of at least seven courses, with a minimum of four at 300-level or higher. Tailored for degree holders, it can be finished in one year full-time or spread over multiple years part-time. A DipGrad offers excellent opportunities for career transition or skill enhancement.
