Classics explores the cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and the Mediterranean region. These societies profoundly shaped modern civilization – influencing language, thought, religion, arts, theater, and philosophy. Numerous legal and governmental structures also trace their origins to these ancient cultures.
The field of Classics seeks to comprehend these early societies and recognize their accomplishments and historical significance. Simultaneously, it encourages students to grapple with enduring human concerns that ancient peoples confronted and that remain relevant today: social dynamics, morality, conflict, governance, spirituality, and life's fundamental questions.
