Palliative care has developed as a specialized field that brings together healthcare professionals to support individuals living with and facing terminal illnesses where curative treatments are no longer effective.

This approach addresses all aspects of well-being - physical, social, emotional, and spiritual (tinana, whanau, hinengaro, and wairua) - focusing on enhancing quality of life during end-of-life care. It serves patients of all ages, from children to seniors, and extends support to grieving families.

The Palliative Care specialization within the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences, Postgraduate Diploma of Health Sciences, Master of Health Sciences, and Master of Health Sciences Professional Practice equips students with the skills needed for employment and leadership roles in palliative care, both in Aotearoa New Zealand and globally.
