The University of Canterbury's postgraduate health sciences program in Environment and Health stands as the sole qualification in the South Island that enables graduates to practice as Environmental Health Officers.

These professionals serve in local councils, public health agencies, and private companies. Their responsibilities encompass examining and overseeing food safety, infectious disease control, and environmental health hazards. They safeguard community wellbeing by shaping health policies, implementing health promotion programs, and upholding public health laws.

By earning UC's postgraduate Environment and Health qualification, you'll gain hands-on expertise for environmental health careers, including gathering environmental specimens, compiling legal evidence, collaborating with indigenous communities, and utilizing GIS technology. The program equips you with knowledge in risk evaluation, public health research methodologies, and study design to accurately analyze environmental threats. Additionally, you'll become familiar with key regulations such as the Health Act and Resource Management Act.
