UC's Cinema Studies postgraduate program is housed within the English Department. While our Honours courses carry English department codes, they concentrate exclusively on film studies and require particular prerequisites.

Students pursuing Cinema Studies Honours usually take two interdisciplinary courses: ENGL 444 WomenTheoryFilm: Continental Theory and French Cinema, led by Senior Lecturer Mary Wiles, and ENGL 445 The Essay Film, taught by Senior Lecturer Alan Wright.

Postgraduate students completing MA, MA(Thesis), or PhD degrees in English with a Cinema Studies focus have earned the distinguished UC Master's Scholarship, researching varied cinematic subjects from American indie films to French New Wave, Japanese Animé, and Queer Cinema. These students can gain practical experience by tutoring introductory Cinema Studies courses.
