Materials engineering pushes us to explore and create innovative materials by examining the composition, characteristics, and functionality of fundamental resources that shape our world. Breakthroughs in this field frequently drive transformative technologies that reshape our daily lives. The MMaterialsEng program provides comprehensive knowledge of materials development, fabrication, and application, while enhancing leadership capabilities. The University aims to elevate your professional trajectory by refining both your technical expertise and business acumen. Companies are actively seeking professionals with these qualifications across manufacturing, energy sectors, materials refinement, production, and emerging metal applications. The MMaterialsEng curriculum blends structured coursework with essential research components, allowing you to select either a dedicated research project or a self-directed research portfolio. Employers particularly value research initiatives that incorporate Māori and indigenous wisdom, such as sustainable energy materials (e.g., plant-based fibers or biomass-derived graphite) or metal recovery from industrial byproducts. Specialization options include: biomaterials engineering, sustainable energy materials, and cutting-edge materials processing techniques.
