The MLitt serves as an alternative to a PhD for those holding a master's degree who wish to pursue an extensive research project. Available across most disciplines within the Faculty of Arts (subject to approval and supervisory availability), this program allows you to either deepen your expertise in your current field or explore a completely new research area. Ideal for various academic and professional paths—particularly if doctoral studies aren't your goal—the MLitt offers advanced coursework and independent research opportunities. Focus areas include: Pacific politics, cultural studies, health systems, economic trends, environmental issues, social dynamics, and historical perspectives; Pacific languages, linguistics, and language education methodologies; interdisciplinary Pacific studies and community analysis; Indigenous Pacific knowledge systems, performing arts, and cultural worldviews; as well as migration patterns, identity formation, and transnational connections throughout the Pacific region and Rim countries, with special emphasis on New Zealand.
You need to have completed a masters degree in any discipline from a recognised university (or similar institution) with a GPE of 4.0 or higher.
