The MA provides diverse options to suit your needs. You can select between research-based or taught programs, with durations of either one year or 18 months based on your prior qualifications, across over 40 academic disciplines. Your previous studies may allow you to explore a field distinct from your earlier specialization. A research master's lets you make meaningful contributions to your chosen discipline through an extensive research project guided by New Zealand's top academics. Alternatively, a taught master's offers intensive learning in intimate classroom settings, fostering direct engagement with faculty while undertaking a more concise research component. For Languages and Literature postgraduates, you can pursue advanced study in two languages and their literary traditions simultaneously. Available language specializations include Chinese, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Maori Studies, and Spanish. These programs focus on enhancing linguistic proficiency, literary analysis, and (where applicable) linguistic research, with significant emphasis on research papers or projects. Unlike Comparative Literature, Languages and Literature mandates language acquisition and doesn't involve cross-cultural comparisons between the two chosen languages and literatures.
