The MA provides diverse options to suit your needs. You can choose between research-based or taught programs, with durations of one year or 18 months based on your qualifications, across over 40 academic disciplines. Your prior education may allow you to explore a field different from your previous specialization. The research master's lets you make meaningful contributions to your chosen discipline through an extensive research project guided by New Zealand's top academics. Alternatively, taught master's programs offer intensive learning in small groups, direct engagement with faculty, and a shorter research component. Earning an MA enhances both your specialized knowledge and versatile skills. Alumni have successfully applied their advanced abilities in strategic analysis, critical reasoning, communication, and cultural understanding to careers in public service, global development, cultural institutions, and research sectors.
For Languages and Literature postgraduate studies, you can pursue advanced work in two languages simultaneously. Available options include: Chinese, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Maori Studies, or Spanish. These programs focus on enhancing language proficiency, literary analysis, and linguistic exploration where applicable. Research papers or projects form a significant part of these graduate programs. Unlike Comparative Literature, this discipline mandates language acquisition and doesn't necessitate cross-language comparative analysis.
