To qualify as a professional architect, you'll need to finish either the MArch(Prof) program or one of our combined master's degrees (plus any extra requirements from licensing bodies). The MArch(Prof) holds professional accreditation from the New Zealand Registered Architects Board (NZRAB), New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA), and Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA). After a year of advanced coursework, you'll develop your own architectural design concept through a thesis project, backed by rigorous theoretical study. The initial year features advanced studio work and two seminar options covering sustainable design, urban planning, digital/material fabrication, or architectural history/theory. Your final year focuses on a thesis project exploring your chosen specialization within the built environment.
You must have completed an undergraduate degree in architecture or design, GPE - Grade Point Equivalent: 4.0
Other pathways to study: The University’s Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) degree programme is a suitable pathway into the MArch(Prof).
You may also be eligible to transfer credit towards your BAS if you hold an undergraduate degree in a related discipline, such as spatial design or architectural technology.
