Students achieving a B average or above in their Law courses during Parts I and II of the LLB program may apply to transfer to the LLB(Hons) program for Parts III and IV. Typically, this occurs after the second year of study—or after the third year for conjoint students, provided all requirements are met. Unlike other university honors programs, the LLB(Hons) is completed alongside the standard LLB coursework. To earn the honors designation, students must enroll in an extra semester beyond their LLB requirements, during which they undertake a two-semester seminar course and write a dissertation. Maintaining a minimum B average remains mandatory throughout the program.
There is no direct entry to the LLB(Hons) programme for students who have completed their prior study overseas. Entry is by invitation for existing high-achieving LLB Part II students. International students wishing to study the LLB (Hons) should first successfully complete Parts I and II of the LLB programme to the required level at Auckland Law School.
