SIT's Bachelor of Therapeutic and Sports Massage was the pioneering massage degree program accredited in New Zealand. The program has been running since 2002.
The Bachelor of Therapeutic and Sports Massage (BTSM) is a three-year program available for full-time study over three years or part-time over five years. During the first year, students attend in-person classes at SITTe Pukenga Campus, where they develop expertise in anatomy, physiology, massage therapy fundamentals, and clinical practice.
The second year adopts a HyFlex approach, allowing students to continue working in their local massage therapy clinics while studying. Instruction combines online learning, hands-on practice, and mandatory in-person block courses in Invercargill. This year expands on first-year concepts, covering functional assessment, pathology, advanced techniques, sports massage, and research methods for massage professionals.
