AUT's Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning offers a one-year pathway to qualify as an educator, with specialization options in either early childhood or primary education. The program combines curriculum studies and educational theory with practical teaching placements in either early childhood centers or primary/intermediate schools.
This intensive year-long program extends beyond the typical academic calendar, requiring 150 credit points instead of the standard 120 for postgraduate qualifications. Graduates become eligible to apply for provisional teaching registration with New Zealand's Teaching Council. The curriculum includes eight mandatory courses in your chosen specialization, focusing on educational frameworks, theoretical foundations, and professional development. These courses emphasize diversity, equity, and social justice principles, aligning with Auckland's multicultural communities and the need for inclusive educational approaches.
