To earn a PhD, students must produce a substantial and novel addition to their field through one of these options, each amounting to 70,000–100,000 words:
a traditional written dissertation; or
a dissertation incorporating published papers; or
a creative output (like an artwork or design) paired with an analytical commentary.
Doctoral researchers must perform autonomous, highly original investigations; independently plan, execute, and conclude a research initiative; gain deep theoretical and methodological expertise in their specialization; and effectively communicate their findings to appropriate audiences.
