Gender studies is an interdisciplinary academic field founded on the principle that social life is fundamentally shaped by gender. This discipline promotes the use of creative theories and investigative methods to examine how bodies are categorized by sex, gender, and sexual orientation. It further investigates how these ideas connect with current global dialogues about sexual and reproductive health and the spectrum of human sexuality.A major in gender studies, with a specialized concentration on Asia, acquaints students with diverse feminist and queer analytical frameworks. These frameworks strengthen critical and methodological competencies, cultivate problem-solving skills, and enhance professional development via internships. Additionally, the field instills a commitment to gender equity and social justice that is applicable across numerous professions. Graduates of gender studies programs are equipped to tackle intricate problems with flexibility, formulate solution-focused strategies, and help shape policies that advance diversity, inclusion, and community engagement.During the initial year, students take foundational courses that employ gender and sexuality as analytical tools to scrutinize daily life and various academic fields. Subjects covered range from gender and environmental issues, gender in food studies, and sexual ethics to sexual citizenship and social activism. In advanced studies, learners explore specialized areas such as the cultural dynamics of Southeast Asia, feminist movements in Asia, conceptions of masculinity in Asian and African contexts, and international views on sexual health and reproductive rights. Using feminist and queer analytical lenses, students critically analyze media representations of marginalized groups. The curriculum also highlights the personal relevance of its subject matter, concentrating on research that drives change and benefits society. It prepares students to question and reshape common perceptions about bodies and sexualities, which are frequently influenced by societal structures like family, legal systems, religion, and government.
