The MSc in Clinical and Community Psychology program is offered through the Psychology Department, known for its emphasis on research and practical implementation in clinical and community environments. This degree serves as a pathway for individuals pursuing research roles in public/private sectors or positions as Assistant Psychologists in healthcare, while also preparing graduates for psychology doctoral programs (for those holding a PSI-recognized undergraduate qualification). Participants typically hold an undergraduate degree accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland or equivalent bodies like the British Psychological Society. Note: This particular MSc program isn't intended as conversion training - for that purpose, consider our MA in Psychology instead. The curriculum develops specialized expertise in Clinical and Community Psychology methodologies and subject matter, equipping students with sophisticated research, analytical, and practical competencies valued across clinical practice, academic institutions, and research organizations. Structured around the reflective scientist-practitioner framework, the program focuses on four core components: scholarly knowledge, clinical proficiency, research capabilities, and professional growth. Teaching methods prioritize hands-on learning, skill development exercises, and reflective practice techniques.
Normally a minimum 2.2 degree award (Level 8 - National Qualifications Authority of Ireland) in psychology is required. In addition, candidates must have a Psychology Society of Ireland (PSI) or equivalent (https://www.psychologicalsociety.ie/join-us/Applications-from-outside-I…) accreditation to qualify. We will consider relevant work experience and equivalent qualifications in cognate fields (e.g., sociology, economics) with substantial research methods experience. In the case of international candidates, the overseas equivalent is required. Where candidates are non-native English language speakers, certified demonstrable achievements in a Standard English Language Competency Test in line with UL requirements will be necessary. Candidates may be interviewed as part of the selection process.
