This program is especially appealing for law graduates seeking to specialize in commercial law, particularly those aiming to comprehend and implement commercial law across multiple jurisdictions. It significantly boosts career opportunities for graduates, early-career legal professionals, corporate legal advisors, and any lawyers engaged in international commercial dealings.
The Law School has a longstanding tradition of cultivating students' transferable skills through initiatives like Advanced Lawyering and Moot Court, along with innovative core courses such as Alternative Dispute Resolution. These programs foster comprehensive thinking and directly improve essential soft skills including problem-solving, decision-making, communication, collaboration, organization, analytical reasoning, and interpersonal abilities. Combined with mandatory clinical education components, they create a cohesive learning experience that helps students connect their knowledge to real-world applications. Consequently, our alumni have achieved prominent positions as partners in leading law and accounting firms, barristers, high-ranking government officials, NGO leaders, EU professionals, academics, and corporate executives.
Postgraduate students equally benefit from this research excellence, whether pursuing a general LLM, specialized LLM (in International Commercial Law, Human Rights in Criminal Justice, or European and Comparative Law), or engaging in doctoral research alongside our substantial PhD community.
The School maintains robust collaborations with legal practitioners, government agencies, NGOs, and key stakeholders across all legal fields. We've established particularly strong partnerships with An Garda Síochána and the Revenue Commissioners. Our global connections enable student placements in Canada and the US, plus full academic year exchanges with universities in Malta, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, and the Netherlands. Additional partnerships exist with German, French, and Spanish institutions where courses are taught in the local language. Our diverse international student community thrives in this environment. A recent survey of over 5,000 international students across Irish universities ranked UL as Ireland's top institution for student experience, support services, and welcoming atmosphere. The EU Commission's latest data also places UL among Europe's top 100 Erasmus host universities.
