The Higher Diploma in Software Development is a full-time conversion course designed for graduates from non-ICT backgrounds seeking to transition into the IT industry. This intensive program equips students with essential theoretical foundations and hands-on competencies, delivering a well-rounded intermediate-level grasp of software development. Classes run Monday through Friday, mirroring the schedule of traditional full-time on-campus programs at UL. Developed in partnership with leading Irish and international IT companies, the curriculum directly addresses current industry demands. Participants will acquire in-demand ICT skills through modules covering programming, web applications, databases, software quality assurance, and testing, complemented by a professional work placement. Important: During the application process, we'll communicate primarily via email, so please monitor both your inbox and spam folder regularly. Upon graduation, students will be proficient in: - Building standalone applications (with a focus on Java) - Creating web applications (using HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, AJAX, ASP.NET, C#, and MS-SQL Server) - Developing mobile apps (primarily through Android Studio) at an appropriate skill level - Implementing both traditional and object-oriented systems analysis and design methodologies - Designing databases, writing SQL queries, and developing stored procedures - Creating, designing, and implementing test cases
A central component of the program is the industry placement, which allows students to synthesize and apply their acquired knowledge to real-world software development challenges.
