At UL, the emphasis lies on practical Mathematical sciences, employing Mathematics and Statistics to address challenges in science, engineering, business, finance, and society. Applied mathematical and statistical modeling represents an approach to questioning and comprehending how systems function. When an issue or phenomenon emerges, Mathematics and Statistics serve to clarify, interpret, and ideally enhance the situation.
LM124 Mathematics Common Entry offers a flexible starting point for students uncertain about their specialization. This program features a comprehensive first year covering diverse subjects in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, and Economics. After exploring these disciplines, students can then select their preferred specialization for the final three years of their degree. UL provides this unique opportunity to explore before committing.
Students must finalize their program selection by the end of the first semester. While there are no general restrictions, those wishing to pursue Mathematics and Physics must enroll in the Mechanics/Heat/Electricity/Magnetism (PH4131) physics module during the first semester. Similarly, students aiming for Economics and Mathematical Sciences need to take an economics module initially. Careful module selection can keep all three pathways available until the second semester.
