The MA/Postgraduate Diploma program is a globally recognized certification, with curriculum designed around established competencies and professional benchmarks in Health Promotion. This IUHPE (International Union of Health Promotion and Education) Accredited Health Promotion Program ensures graduates can directly apply for IUHPE Registered Health Promotion Practitioner status on the voluntary registry. Alumni pursue careers across various sectors, including public services (such as the Health Service Executive and local governments), NGOs (like the Irish Heart Foundation and Irish Cancer Society), private industry (including health insurers), and academia (at institutions such as University of Galway and University College Cork), often in specialized Health Promotion roles. Our graduates have secured positions both in Ireland and internationally, including the UK, Australia, Canada, and the US.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Health Promotion consists of eight modules, offered over two semesters for full-time students and four for part-time participants. The MA program builds on this foundation by adding a research-based dissertation, completed during summer with submissions due in late August.

This qualification opens doors to diverse career paths worldwide, equipping graduates to either specialize in health promotion or integrate its principles into existing roles, particularly in health and education. Alumni have entered various sectors—public, private, nonprofit, and community organizations—securing positions ranging from Health Promotion Specialists to academic researchers. Many MA graduates have advanced to doctoral studies at University of Galway and other institutions, exploring Health Promotion and related fields. The broad career trajectories of our students, who come from varied backgrounds, highlight the practical value and adaptability of the skills gained through these programs.

For the MA, the minimum entry requirement is a 2.1 on an honours degree programme. For the PDip, the minimum entry requirement is a primary degree at any level. The programme board evaluates each applicant’s academic record and relevant professional experience and assesses the applicant’s level of motivation and suitability from the personal statement submitted as part of the online application.
