Research at NUI Galway's Ryan Institute can be pursued through distinct disciplinary tracks (primarily though not limited to Physics, Botany, Zoology, and Earth and Ocean Sciences). The Ryan Institute track focuses on interdisciplinary subjects closely linked to the Institute's cross-College approach or involving researchers without specific discipline assignments. Current key research themes center on the biodiversity and bioresources cluster, including: Environmental Stewardship & Protection. Ocean conservation, sustainable resource utilization and governance Biological Diversity: Trends & Mechanisms. Species range studies, marine ecosystem dynamics, ecological community composition Aquaculture, Biotech & Bioexploration. Investigations supporting marine biotechnology and sustainable aquaculture development
To be eligible to enter on a programme of study and research for the degree of PhD you must have reached a high honours standard at the examination for the primary degree or presented such evidence as will satisfy the Head of School and the College of your fitness.
English Language Requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
