The Structured PhD program offers doctoral candidates access to diverse interdisciplinary coursework. Students can choose from an extensive selection of modules designed to: strengthen expertise in their chosen field through discipline-specific content, provide dissertation-focused skills crucial for research completion (such as language acquisition), support professional growth opportunities like presenting at global conferences, and improve career prospects via general training sessions including IT skills and career preparation workshops.
Every candidate receives guidance from a primary Supervisor(s) and a dedicated Graduate Research Committee composed of seasoned academics who assist in designing the study plan and offer continuous research support.
The program encourages applications across all Irish Studies disciplines, with particular interest in: comparative analyses of modern/contemporary Irish literature in both languages, translation theory and practice, historical mapmaking, colonial geographic studies, and traditional Irish performing arts. All PhD/MLitt researchers at the Centre for Irish Studies must incorporate interdisciplinary methodologies into their work.
