This master's program for nurses offers an extensive and well-rounded curriculum with strong clinical relevance and theoretical foundations. Developed alongside the MSc in Obesity, it has been tailored specifically for nurses aiming to specialize in obesity care, delivered by the University of Galway's School of Nursing. Obesity presents a significant health challenge, impacting individuals and society alike. There is increasing recognition of the need for effective treatments and preventive measures. The University of Galway designed this program with dual objectives: to enhance evidence-based, compassionate, and dignified nursing care for patients with obesity and related conditions, and to improve population-level strategies for combating the obesity epidemic. This dual focus is central to the program, evident in its two dedicated obesity modules. Students will gain thorough knowledge of available therapeutic approaches, understand the factors influencing obesity variations, and evaluate the pros and cons of population-level interventions, including the societal, political, and legislative hurdles involved.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma/Master of Health Sciences in Obesity (Level 9 NFQ awards) will qualify for clinical nurse specialist roles in obesity care within primary or hospital settings, aligning with HSE priorities to establish a comprehensive clinical program for obesity management.
