The Master of Science in Mathematics is a versatile one-year course tailored for two main groups:
Individuals holding a 4-year Mathematics degree seeking to enhance their expertise in employment-relevant mathematical fields, such as telecommunications, data analytics, or finance.
Those with a 3-year combined BA in Mathematics, or degrees in related fields (Computer Science, Natural Sciences, or Engineering) containing substantial mathematical content, aiming to strengthen their mathematical foundation for careers in education, research, or industry.
Professional Prospects
Organizations across financial services, corporate enterprises, and government agencies actively seek professionals with strong mathematical capabilities and practical application skills. Beyond acquiring advanced mathematical knowledge, program graduates will develop expertise in implementing mathematical principles for data interpretation, strategic planning, and information protection. They will also gain proficiency with multiple commonly-used mathematical computing tools.
The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Applied Mathematics provides a dynamic academic setting for advanced mathematical study. Our institution comprises around 40 academic staff spanning four specialty areas: Pure Mathematics, Statistical Science, Applied Mathematics, and Bioinformatics.
Renowned within the University of Galway for our student-centered approach, numerous faculty members have received awards for outstanding teaching. Our professors maintain international research reputations. The School organizes frequent seminars featuring both resident and guest scholars presenting cutting-edge research, while typically convening two to three global conferences annually across various mathematical fields
Students should hold at least an upper Second-Class Honours degree (or equivalent) with a substantial mathematical component containing at least 30 ECTS of mathematical modules.
English Language Requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
