The MSc in Biomedical Engineering offers an advanced learning experience in the biomedical engineering field. This program emphasizes cultivating specialized technical expertise and practical application through research and innovation. Blending a robust research element with structured coursework and extensive project-based learning, it aims to produce future pioneers in the global medical technology sector, academic research, and biomedical engineering education. Building upon the already successful BE and ME programs in Biomedical Engineering at University of Galway, it integrates cutting-edge graduate-level courses with contemporary medical technology research. While closely aligned with the ME in Biomedical Engineering (course code: GYE18), this program has a wider scope and features a comprehensive one-year 30 ECTS research thesis.
Career Prospects
Graduates will find excellent opportunities in medical technology and related high-tech industries (such as micro-electronics and pharmaceuticals). Within the medical technology sector specifically, career paths may include research and development (R&D), design assurance, manufacturing, quality control, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, graduates will be well-prepared to pursue PhD studies, opening doors to careers in academic and industrial research.
Entry to the MSc programme is open to individuals who have Second Class Honours, Grade 1 (H2.1), in a Level 8 engineering degree in a related discipline, or equivalent, from a recognised university or third-level college. Factors taken into account in determining admission will include the specific content of the undergraduate degree (with a particular focus on prior learning in engineering/mathematics/physics), the applicant’s performance, and the availability of places.
