The Master of Science in Applied Multilingualism addresses the growing linguistic diversity in Irish, European, and global communities. Multilingualism refers to either using multiple languages or having functional ability in more than one language. While some individuals acquire several languages from childhood in multilingual environments, others study foreign languages as adults. These varying linguistic backgrounds influence people and communities differently. This groundbreaking program welcomes both Irish and international students.
The program's primary objectives are to:
Create an educational setting that promotes analytical thinking, problem-solving, and reflective practice for understanding and supporting multilingual individuals and communities.
Enhance students' professional skills in multilingualism while maintaining professional standards and critically evaluating their roles and expertise.
Support students in cultivating their specialized interests, enabling them to analyze current research, implement best practices, and conduct and share multilingualism studies.

Career Prospects
Growing multilingual societies require skilled professionals in healthcare, education, government, and NGOs who can effectively serve diverse linguistic groups. Additionally, enhanced language skills benefit those pursuing careers in language policy, teaching, cultural institutions, or diplomatic services. Potential career paths include:
Healthcare providers serving multilingual patients
Educators working with linguistically diverse student populations
NGO personnel addressing language diversity
Organizations focused on minority languages and language policy development
