The Department provides guidance across a broad spectrum of medical fields. Prospective students interested in either degree program should consult with the Department Head.

At the University of Galway's Psychiatry Department, faculty members instruct fourth-year medical undergraduates in psychiatry while also covering psychiatric subjects for students in affiliated university programs. Additionally, the academic team oversees advanced psychiatry training in the area via the NUIG Deanery under the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland.

Qualification Requirements

MD candidates should normally have a high honours standard in Medicine from University of Galway or possess qualification deemed to be equivalent. Candidates shall be eligible to register onto the MD programme, three years after obtaining the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine. The application will also require support of an academic staff member who is approved by the College to supervise the research in terms of its nature and scope.

Additional entry requirements: candidates may be required to submit a research proposal for consideration by the School as part of their application.
