Anaesthesia plays a key role in both clinical studies and fundamental scientific research. Current foundational/translational research focuses on exploring gene and stem cell treatments for ALI/ARDS, as well as myocardial preconditioning. Clinical research initiatives examine the effectiveness of medical equipment, especially devices related to airway management, regional anaesthesia, and acute postoperative pain control.

Qualification Requirements

MD candidates should normally have a high honours standard in Medicine from NUI galway or possess a qualification deemed to be equivalent. Candidates shall be eligible to register onto the MD programme, three years after obtaining the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine. The application will also require support of an academic staff member who is approved by the College to supervise the research in terms of its nature and scope.

IELTS - 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component.
TOEFL IBT - 88 overall, 7-11 Listening, 16-17 Speaking, 18-20 Writing, 8-12 Reading
