The J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics features a robust and growing PhD program that blends guided coursework with self-directed research, primarily concentrated in the initial year. Candidates focus on designing, completing, and defending an original dissertation that meets rigorous academic standards through internal and external evaluation. This program provides extensive research and writing training while fostering specialized knowledge in each student's area of focus. Dissertation topics are collaboratively determined by students and their advisors, often aligning with faculty research expertise. Admission requires securing an appropriate academic supervisor.
Second Class Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree, Grade 2 or higher (or equivalent international qualification). Other similar level of academic achievement in an equivalent business degree.
English Language Requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
