This distinctive interdisciplinary program, the only one of its kind in Ireland, equips students with comprehensive knowledge of European (including Irish) cultures, languages, and societies spanning from Classical antiquity through the Middle Ages. The curriculum's cross-disciplinary approach fosters a multifaceted understanding of history while teaching essential linguistic and research methodologies for studying ancient and medieval civilizations.
Career Pathways
Program alumni frequently advance to PhD studies and academic careers. Other graduates have established themselves in cultural heritage management, library/museum professions, publishing, journalism, research analysis, financial services, government roles, education, and administrative positions.
A Second Class Honours, Grade 1 BA, or a GPA of 3.3, or equivalent international undergraduate degree (at NFQ Level 8) in a relevant subject. Selection is based on applicants’ academic records, academic references stating their potential for completing a research project, as well as samples of applicants’ written work.
English Language Requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
