The MA/Postgraduate Diploma program offers a globally recognized qualification, with curriculum content aligned with established health promotion competencies and professional standards. This IUHPE (International Union of Health Promotion and Education) Accredited Health Promotion Course enables graduates to directly apply for IUHPE Registered Health Promotion Practitioner status. Our alumni work across various sectors including public services (such as the Health Service Executive and local governments), NGOs (like the Irish Heart Foundation and Irish Cancer Society), private companies (including health insurers), and academic institutions (such as University of Galway and University College Cork), holding positions ranging from Health Promotion Specialists to research roles. Graduates have secured employment both in Ireland and internationally, with placements in countries including the UK, Australia, Canada, and the US, while others have progressed to doctoral studies.
This program opens doors to diverse career prospects worldwide. Alumni are equipped to build full-time careers in health promotion or integrate its principles into existing roles, particularly within health and education fields.
Program graduates have secured positions across multiple sectors - public, private, nonprofit, and community organizations - including specialized Health Promotion Specialist roles. Many work in academic research both in Ireland and abroad, while others have pursued PhDs at University of Galway and other institutions in Health Promotion and related fields. The varied career paths of our graduates, who come from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, demonstrate the practical applicability and transferable nature of the health promotion skills acquired through our programs.
As Health Promotion is a multidisciplinary field, we consider applications from candidates with a primary degree from a related discipline. For the MA, the minimum entry requirement is a 2.1 on an honours degree programme. For the PDip, the minimum entry requirement is a primary degree at any level. The programme board evaluates each applicant’s academic record and relevant professional experience and assesses the applicant’s level of motivation and suitability from the personal statement submitted as part of the online application.
