The Bachelor of Arts (Global Experience) program features structured subject categories. First-year students enrolled in GY129 choose three subjects from a pool of 24 options, with each subject falling under one of seven distinct groups. A key restriction applies: no more than one subject may be selected from any single group. Upon advancing to the second year, students focus on two of their initial subjects for degree-level study.
This four-year honors degree provides exceptional flexibility, allowing students to combine two subjects in diverse configurations at the degree level.
The third year presents an international study opportunity at one of our affiliated institutions worldwide. This immersive experience fosters academic growth while developing cultural competence through living and learning abroad. Our global network includes partner institutions across Europe, North and South America, and China, accommodating both language specialists and non-language students. During this year abroad, students continue studying both their chosen degree subjects.
Beyond academic excellence, the program cultivates versatile skills that prepare graduates for professional success, whether seeking employment or pursuing further education in Ireland or internationally. Language students who complete their third year in a country where their target language is spoken gain particularly valuable linguistic proficiency for future career prospects.
For students specializing in two languages, the program mandates at least twelve weeks in each relevant language region. Typically, this involves one academic year at a partner university for one language, complemented by a student-arranged summer placement in the second language's country.
Career Prospects
Arts graduates, especially those with language qualifications, enjoy strong employment prospects. Career paths span diverse sectors including hospitality, creative industries, media, and communications. An Arts degree equips graduates with adaptable intellectual capabilities, knowledge, and interpersonal skills crucial for today's dynamic job market. The international study component represents transformative personal and professional development, cultivating qualities highly valued across industries. Graduates emerge with heightened independence, resilience, and demonstrated adaptability - attributes that distinguish them to potential employers worldwide.
Minimum Grade H5 in two subjects and passes in four other subjects at O6/H7 level in the Leaving Certificate, including Irish, English, another language, and three other subject recognised for entry purposes.
