Researchers in Infection Biology at UCD explore how disease-causing microbes and viruses operate, how hosts react to infections, immune-related disorders including inflammation and immune dysfunction, along with creating new treatments and drug delivery methods. UCD's extensive infection biology research is strongly showcased in SBBS, with these key areas receiving special attention:

Interactions between hosts and pathogens
How hosts respond to infections
Genetic aspects of infection biology
Genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic studies of pathogens
Computer-based infection biology research
SBBS Principal Investigators work in partnership with UCD faculty from Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Biology, Environmental Science, and the Conway Institute. The School's consistent success in securing both national and international funding has led to an impressive history of published work and advanced degree education.
