All substances and organisms are composed of atoms that bond together in various configurations to form molecules. Chemistry explores these molecular structures, their formation, and their interactions. Fields like biology, medicine, forensic science, energy solutions, electronics, and medical technology all rely heavily on chemical principles. Chemistry is among the specialization options offered in the Chemistry track within the shared-entry Science program.
During their initial year, students in the Chemistry stream follow a common curriculum before selecting at least two specializations in their second year. The final degree focus is chosen at the end of the second year. Provided academic standards are maintained, students are assured placement in one of their second-year stream specializations. While we prioritize students' first-choice majors, the program offers multiple related options within each stream. Below is an example curriculum showing potential modules for Chemistry students throughout their four-year journey at UCD.
