Employers across Ireland and Europe highly regard this degree. In today's global business environment, language skills have become increasingly vital, making this qualification a standout advantage for graduates entering the job market.
Law with French Law represents one of two French Law programs available through Sutherland School of Law, with the BCL/Matrise dual degree being the alternative (detailed on the subsequent page). All applicants for French Law studies begin with the BCL (Law with French Law) in their first year. Both programs provide the unique chance to engage deeply with two of the world's most significant legal frameworks. Participants will study both the common law system (used in Ireland, the UK, and much of the English-speaking world) and Europe's predominant civil law tradition.
The BCL (Law with French Law) program delivers comprehensive training in Irish law while developing extensive knowledge of French legal principles and advanced proficiency in French language and legal terminology. With small class sizes for French Law, students benefit from interactive learning that improves their conversational French. Graduates may pursue careers within the Irish legal system, though the program also equips them with valuable comparative perspectives that enrich their understanding of Irish law. This four-year program includes a year abroad at a prestigious French law school during the third year.
