The MSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics is a comprehensive postgraduate program designed for graduates holding a BSc or MSc in Nutrition or a related field. This course prepares students to meet the professional competency requirements for registration with the Dietitians Registration Board (CORU). The full-time program spans two academic years.
Aligned with guidelines from the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute (INDI) and CORU's education standards, the curriculum incorporates evidence-based research and contemporary dietetic practices. Teaching methods include lectures, workshops, hands-on training, and problem-based learning sessions.
Students undertake 1,000 hours of Practice Education (clinical placements) across both years, applying classroom knowledge in real-world settings. These placements, organized in collaboration with the University, Health Service Executive, and private/voluntary organizations, include mandatory rotations through diverse healthcare environments (hospitals, clinics, community centers) in Southern Ireland.
Candidates will hold a minimum Second Class Honours Grade I in a primary honours degree (NFQ, Level 8 or equivalent) or a postgraduate degree (Level 9 NFQ or equivalent). Applicants must have successfully completed human physiology and biochemistry modules (a minimum of 10 credits for each module are required) as part of the primary or postgraduate degree. Suitable degrees include nutrition, biochemistry, physiology, biology, food science, medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy.
