The BSc Accounting program offers a comprehensive business education with a unique focus. It equips students with both general business knowledge and specialized accounting skills, paving the way for professional certification and accelerated career growth in finance. The curriculum covers diverse disciplines such as finance, law, management, economics, information systems, accounting, marketing, and statistics.
Students learn from distinguished faculty members who combine academic excellence with real-world experience. Our instructors include seasoned professionals from major accounting firms, financial institutions, and leading corporations, along with academics who teach for professional accounting organizations. Many hold PhDs, conduct research at UCC, consult for industry, and publish in respected international journals.
With intentionally limited enrollment (around 70 students), the program fosters an intimate learning atmosphere. This setting promotes personalized attention, strong peer connections, and the cultivation of essential skills like critical analysis, collaborative problem-solving, and effective teamwork.
This degree prepares versatile graduates for leadership positions across multiple industries while providing accelerated pathways to accounting certification. It offers more exemptions from professional accounting exams than other UCC undergraduate programs (see Professional Accountancy Qualification section for details).
Most alumni successfully achieve professional accounting qualifications and build rewarding careers in various sectors. Graduates pursue roles as financial managers, business analysts, advisors, investment specialists, risk managers, entrepreneurs, educators, and certified accountants. Non-EU applicants are expected to have educational qualifications of a standard equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate
Duolingo English Test (DET): DET 120 with a minimum score of 110 in each individual section
IELTS - International English Language Testing System/ IELTS Indicator Test: Minimum overall score of 6.5 and a minimum of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language - TOEFL iBT/TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition Test: Minimum overall score of 90 and minimum of 20 in each section
University of Cambridge: 176+ on the Cambridge English scale with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English i.e.
Proficiency Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2) Advanced Certificate, Grade C or better (CEFR Level C1 or C2) First Certificate, Grade A (CEFR Level C1)
Pearson PTE Academic: Minimum of 63 (with at least 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section)
