The BA World Languages is a four-year specialized language program featuring a study abroad year and, for most languages offered, Computer-Assisted Language Learning alongside conventional instruction. This program develops graduates with highly valued linguistic abilities, along with insights into language systems and the cultures associated with their chosen languages. While primarily focusing on contemporary European and global languages, Latin is also available for its academic merit and as the foundation for several other offered languages.
Many languages (excluding French and Irish) can be studied from beginner level, though all applicants must show proficiency in at least one language besides English.
The third year involves a structured international experience, either studying at a partner university or combining academic study with professional work placements.
During Years 1, 2, and 4, students engage with multiple languages alongside specialized coursework (including linguistic structures, translation theory/practice, digital competencies, and TEFL methodologies).
